Trained Logger Certification (TLC)

Administered by New York Logger Training (NYLT)

Voluntary Logger Certification Program - Recognized by NYS Sustainable Forestry Initiative State Implementation Committee – Continuing Education required for Re-certification every three years.

TLC Core Components: (to be completed within three-year period)

TLC Program- Requirements for renewal/ re-certification

Three elective credits over the course of three years plus updated Adult First Aid and CPR cards. One credit is given for most full day workshops and one half credit for most half day workshops.

The NYLT Board of Directors has left the specific courses allowable open to encourage individuals to attend workshops that are appropriate for their jobs or interest them the most. The following are some topic areas that are considered for elective credit:

Best management practices for water quality

Logging cost analysis

Timber harvest planning

Record keeping

In addition, an individual can submit other courses for approval. In order to see if a course is valid for a continuing education credit, send the name of the course’s sponsor and an official description of the course to the NYLT office. This step is recommended prior to participation in the course.

NYLT recognizes and has assigned credits to most established courses offered by various educational organizations including: Northeastern Loggers Association, SUNY- ESF, Watershed Agricultural Council, W.J. Cox Associates, LEAP, and VFF.

A fee of $5 per credit is required to register workshops not put on by NYLT. It is the participant’s responsibility to submit proof and payment to the NYLT office. This fee is also required for the First Aid/ CPR requirement.
